Instant messenger/CHATTING
Chatrooms or Instant Messaging (IM)Online Bullying UK has had experience of young people using the internet chatrooms who have been persuaded into dangerous situation by adults. This is an offence called 'Grooming'
KEEP SAFE IN CHAT-ROOMS !
- Do not give out personal information
- Give yourself an alias that does not give out anything about your age, gender or location
- Do not respond to abusive posting -ignore them or log off. If you do not take time off and calm down you will end up writing something you will regret which will only make the situation worse
- Think about what you write- it is very easy for people to get the wrong idea about what you write or how you write it
If the person email you pictures which make you feel uncomfortable and which you would not want to show to anyone else
If the person wants to keep their chats with you secret
If the person tells you that you will get in trouble if you tell an adult what has been going on
If the person wants you to email them picture or use a webcam in a way which makes you feel uncomfortable
If the person shares information with you and tells you not to tell anyone else about it "...you are special ...etc"
If the person wants to meet you and tells you not to let anyone know
If you find any of these danger sign it's important that YOU TELL YOUR PARENTS or another adult.
Remember you can report bullying online
